Yesterday afternoon at a Carter Lumber manufacturing facility in Mason ended in deadly gunfire, leaving one worker dead and a quiet industrial stretch of Reading Road swarmed with police.
First responders shut down access to the site while detectives processed the scene and spoke with employees. Authorities said a person of interest was taken into custody, but they have not released any names or said why the shooting may have happened.
What Authorities Say
According to The Cincinnati Enquirer, Mason police were called to the Carter Lumber facility on Reading Road around 1:15 p.m. yesterday and found an employee suffering from gunshot wounds. The worker was later pronounced dead, the paper reported.
The company posted on Facebook that police had responded to its Reading Road facility and remained on-site, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer. Officials have not released the victim’s identity.
Person of Interest in Custody
FOX19 reported that a person of interest was taken into custody in connection with the shooting. Mason police, however, declined to share further information while detectives continue their work, the station said.
Investigators are asking anyone with information or video related to the incident to contact Mason police, according to FOX19.

Employees and nearby residents described a heavy law-enforcement presence at the Reading Road facility as officers and crime-scene technicians moved in and out of the complex through the afternoon.
