
One person is dead and a San Antonio police officer is hurt after a shooting at a Northwest Side apartment complex Wednesday afternoon. The incident unfolded around 2:24 p.m. in the 4700 block of Wurzbach Road. Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved, but neighbors reported a heavy police presence as first responders locked down the area and detectives moved in to start their work.

According to News 4 San Antonio, police said one person was pronounced dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A responding officer was being evaluated for a reported foot injury. Fire officials told the outlet the officer was being assessed at the scene and that no other injuries had been reported. The San Antonio Police Department has not announced any arrests or charges as the investigation continues.

The shooting adds to a run of violent calls on the north and northwest sides of the city this summer. On June 19, an officer was shot while responding to a domestic disturbance in Stone Oak and the suspected shooter was later found dead, MySA reported. The Wurzbach corridor has seen other serious incidents this year as well, including a January road-rage shooting that hospitalized a 10-year-old, according to KSAT.
