Atlanta police say a child was accidentally shot in the hand Tuesday inside a southwest Atlanta home and was conscious and breathing as detectives launched an investigation into how the gun went off.
Officers and emergency crews were called to a home in the 2600 block of Springdale Road SW, where the child was found with a gunshot wound to the hand and was alert when first responders arrived, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
Police told the outlet the shooting appears to be accidental. Investigators have not said who owns the firearm or whether anyone could face charges, and those questions remain hanging over the case for now.

Detectives spent the afternoon canvassing nearby yards and looking for surveillance cameras that may have captured what happened as they worked to piece together the sequence of events, WSB‑TV reports.
