A two-vehicle crash near Columbus Park in Milwaukee left a 27-year-old man dead Friday and put a 28-year-old driver in police custody, according to authorities.
The collision happened at the intersection of West Congress Street and West Appleton Avenue in the Arlington Gardens neighborhood. Emergency crews arrived at the scene and pronounced the 27-year-old driver dead, while investigators shut down the area to collect evidence and interview witnesses.
According to WISN, the Milwaukee Police Department said the 28-year-old was driving southeast on West Appleton Avenue when the crash occurred. The other vehicle, driven by the 27-year-old, was headed north through the intersection. WISN reports the 28-year-old remains in custody as the investigation continues.
Where the crash happened
The crash site is just west of Columbus Park in the Arlington Gardens area on Milwaukee's near west side. Hoodline earlier covered a separate fatal hit-and-run on North 76th in the same neighborhood this year.
Investigation underway
Milwaukee police traffic investigators spent Friday processing the scene and closing lanes while they documented the crash. The department has not released the identities of either driver or announced any potential charges as detectives work to sort out the circumstances, according to WISN.
