A string of armed stickups in East San Jose has ended with the arrest of two 15-year-old boys, who police say were behind multiple late-April robberies in the Dobern Avenue area.
The teens were identified as the primary suspects after a Robbery Unit investigation into incidents that hit nearby neighborhoods on April 24 and April 28, according to the San José Police Department. Both juveniles were booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall, where they remain in custody while detectives continue investigating the case. Officials said the investigation is ongoing.

Robbery Unit detectives said they obtained arrest and search warrants tied to the two incidents, then tracked one boy to Milpitas and the other to San Jose. With help from the department’s Covert Response Unit, officers located and detained the suspects and recovered evidence, including some of the stolen merchandise, according to the release. How Detectives Closed In
SJPD said the takedown came after investigators followed leads that pointed to two separate locations, then executed search and arrest warrants. During those searches, officers seized items they believe were stolen in the robberies and credited the Covert Response Unit with helping track down and arrest the two juveniles.

Detectives are not ruling out the possibility of additional victims or related cases. Investigators said additional information could help identify more victims and clarify the extent of the suspects' involvement.

For now, both teens remain in Juvenile Hall while detectives complete their reports and prosecutors review the case. According to the Superior Court's juvenile division, prosecutors decide whether to file a petition in juvenile court and the juvenile system places a stronger emphasis on rehabilitation and diversion options than adult criminal court. That means any next steps will play out in a system that is designed to focus more on steering young offenders back on track than on punishment alone.
