A sweltering July afternoon in New Orleans turned violent when a child was stabbed during a dispute over going outside to play, according to police. Officers were called to a home in the 2500 block of A.P. Tureaud Avenue on July 23, and the New Orleans Police Department has opened an investigation into what happened inside the Seventh Ward residence.
Responding officers were told that the children in the home had been asked to go outdoors but refused because of the heat, WDSU reported. During the argument that followed, a woman allegedly stabbed one of the children. Police say she now faces a charge of aggravated battery by cutting.

The National Weather Service office serving New Orleans and Baton Rouge warned of "returning, impactful heat" around July 23, with heat-index readings frequently topping 100 degrees. Forecasters noted that such conditions can make outdoor play hazardous for children during peak afternoon hours.
