Memphians who got used to zipping straight to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport on Delta now have to go back to the old routine of connections and extra airport time. Delta Air Lines has quietly removed its nonstop flight between Memphis International Airport and JFK, scrubbing a direct link that only launched last year and had been marketed as an easy hop for both business and leisure travelers.
Delta Confirms The Cut
The route itself was short-lived. As reported by Memphis Business Journal, Delta announced the Memphis–JFK nonstop in May 2025 and started flying it in September 2025. Less than a year later, it is gone from the schedule.
A Delta spokesperson told The Points Guy that the carrier pulled the plug on the JFK flights “as part of our routine network planning” and said affected customers will be contacted with alternative options. In other words, this is a corporate reshuffle, not a one-off glitch, and travelers will be nudged toward other routings.
Seasonal Pause Became Permanent
The first warning sign was buried in the schedules. According to AeroRoutes, the Memphis–JFK leg was initially listed as canceled from early June through early September 2026, appearing at the time to be a summer-only suspension. That “seasonal” pause never ended. The flight did not return to the filings for the fall, and Delta ultimately chose not to bring the nonstop back at all.
Alternatives For Travelers
The loss of JFK does not leave Memphis entirely cut off from New York, just less conveniently connected for those who prefer that specific airport. Delta still runs nonstop service between Memphis and New York’s LaGuardia Airport. Everyone else will be back to playing hub hopscotch. Flyers can route through Delta strongholds such as Atlanta, or they can aim for other New York-area airports, including Newark, and then connect from there. It may not be as glamorous as stepping off directly at JFK, but it will get you to the metro area, with a bit more time and airport wandering built in.
What This Means For MEM's Air Service
Even with this cut, Delta is still a heavyweight at Memphis International. The airline moved more than 1 million passengers through MEM in both 2024 and 2025, according to Memphis Business Journal, so the carrier is not exactly packing its bags and leaving town.
The Memphis–JFK cancellation is part of a larger clean-up of Delta’s New York network. InsideFlyer reports that Delta has cut three JFK routes in all, to Houston, Memphis and St. Louis, with no other airlines immediately stepping in to replace them. For MEM, that means one less nonstop on the board, even as the broader partnership with Delta remains intact.
For now, anyone holding a ticket from Memphis to JFK should take a close look at their reservation and watch for emails or app alerts from the airline. Carriers are expected to offer rebooking options.
