A 40-year-old Gainesville man is in custody after a multi-agency manhunt tied to a shooting during an attempted robbery outside the Dollar General on Limestone Parkway. Police say Saturday’s arrest wrapped up a days-long investigation that pulled in state and neighboring county agencies before the suspect was booked into Hall County Jail.
Charges and custody
Gainesville police identified the suspect as 40-year-old Jarrid Carter and say he is facing a slate of felony charges. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Carter has been charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, criminal attempt to commit armed robbery and possession of a firearm. Jail records cited by the station show he is being held without bond at the Hall County Jail.
Victim hospitalized after shooting
The shooting happened earlier this month when 22-year-old Daniel Alvardo was shot in the stomach outside the Limestone Parkway store and rushed to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in critical condition. "The medics on the scene were able to use blood on the truck, which ultimately saved his life, until they could get him to the trauma center," Gainesville Police Capt. Kevin Holbrook told WSB-TV. Investigators circulated surveillance images early in the case, asking for the public’s help in tracking down the shooter.
Multi-agency search leads to arrest
Authorities said agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office and the White County Sheriff’s Office joined Gainesville police in the search for the suspect. Community tips were key in identifying and locating Carter, investigators told FOX 5 Atlanta. Officials have not released where the arrest occurred or whether any firearm was recovered.
Booking and next steps
Carter is listed as being held at the Hall County Jail, which the county’s Jail Bureau places at 1700 Barber Road in Gainesville, according to the Hall County Jail Bureau. The sheriff’s office is handling booking and custody while investigators continue gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
Police are still asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact investigators, noting that tips played a critical role in moving the case forward, officials told WSB-TV.
