A Friday night street fight just off Discovery Green ended with a juvenile in the hospital after gunfire erupted in downtown Houston, police said. The victim was hit in the armpit, a wound described as non-life-threatening, and was taken to a local hospital in stable condition. According to authorities, the shooting followed a fight among a group of adults near the intersection of Austin and Leeland streets.

Houston Police Department investigators said the gunfire started around 9:50 p.m. when one suspect pulled a gun and fired multiple rounds as the crowd began to scatter. Undercover officers were already in the area, and police estimated roughly 100 juveniles were nearby. Earlier this month, a large unsanctioned gathering at Discovery Green drew hundreds of teenagers and prompted a major police response after multiple shots were fired. Police said they believe Friday night’s gunfire was tied to the earlier altercation between adults and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
