After more than three decades of pre-game beers and post-event wings, Syberg’s Market on Market Street is calling it quits in Downtown West, with a final day of service set for July 18. The news, shared on the chain’s social media, blindsided many downtown regulars who have treated the spot as a default meetup before games and concerts. Syberg’s says it is already scouting for a new home somewhere else in the downtown core.
As reported by First Alert 4, the company noted that the Market "has been serving the downtown community for 36 years" and wrote, "Closing this chapter has not been an easy decision, but we leave with our hearts full of gratitude for this incredible community." The outlet added that Syberg’s gave July 18 as the last day of service but did not explain why the location is shutting down.
What the Market Meant to Downtown
Syberg’s Market sits at 2211 Market St and has long leaned into its role as a pre-game and event hub in Downtown West. According to Syberg's, the spot runs shuttles to Cardinals, Blues and college basketball games, and its game-day specials have been a reliable draw on busy event nights. The company’s site also lists the Market’s menus, operating hours and contact information.
Downtown Restaurant Churn and Context
The decision lands in the middle of an ongoing shuffle of restaurants and nightlife concepts downtown, as operators rethink where to put their money. Some have publicly pointed to security and broader economic pressures when deciding to leave the area. For instance, the St. Louis Business Journal reported last year that Wave Taco opted not to reopen in Downtown West after raising safety concerns. Syberg’s has not tied the Market’s closure to any of those larger trends.
Syberg’s has told customers it is actively hunting for another downtown space and urged fans to keep an eye on its social channels for whatever comes next, according to First Alert 4. In the meantime, the Market stays open through July 18, and updated hours and contact details remain available via Syberg's for anyone squeezing in one last visit.
