A wanted drug suspect in Sandy Springs turned a routine takedown into something that looked more like an action movie last Friday, when a brief chase ended with his car striking a concrete barrier and coming to rest on top of a patrol cruiser. Police say the driver briefly fled on foot but was quickly taken into custody. Nearby motorists described the crash as startling, yet officers say no one was hurt and no members of the public were injured.
The Sandy Springs Police Department's Street Crimes Unit, a specialty team that handles narcotics and targeted investigations, frequently coordinates with federal and local partners on complex cases, according to the Sandy Springs Police Department. The unit is listed alongside several other specialty teams, including traffic, K-9 and tactical units.
How the Arrest Unfolded
As reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, the Street Crimes Unit and Homeland Security Investigations' Atlanta Field Office boxed in the suspect near 8101 Colquitt Road. The suspect's vehicle then struck a concrete barrier, which lifted the rear of the car and left it perched on top of a Sandy Springs patrol cruiser. Authorities identified the driver as Jorge Luis Delgado-Bermudez, a wanted suspect facing multiple Fulton County drug charges, including methamphetamine and cocaine offenses, and whom police say has ties to a larger criminal organization. Delgado-Bermudez exited the vehicle and attempted to run, but officers quickly took him into custody without any reported injuries.
