A 75-year-old woman who was well known in the neighborhood was shot Wednesday morning in East Point near the intersection of Washington Road and Camp Creek Parkway, according to city police. Officers say the victim was already in an ambulance when they arrived, and officials have not released any details about her condition.
Police were called to the area around 9:40 a.m. after an initial report of a fall was upgraded to a person shot while first responders were on the way. The incident unfolded near a gas station and other businesses at the heavily traveled intersection. Employees on scene told officers they recognized the woman and said she regularly came by to hand out food to people in the community, according to Atlanta News First.
Investigators searched the surrounding area for witnesses, pulled surveillance video from nearby businesses and collected evidence at the scene. Police have not identified any suspects or said what may have led up to the shooting.
