El Paso woke Thursday to temperatures in the low 80s, but the city is headed for a punishing afternoon near 106 degrees. Skies will stay sunny, winds will remain light, and there is almost no chance of rain during the day. A Heat Advisory is in effect as the region heads into its hottest stretch of the week.
The National Weather Service in El Paso and Santa Teresa says the advisory covers El Paso County through 9 p.m. Friday, with Thursday highs between 103 and 107 degrees and Friday highs from 105 to 109 degrees. Friday is expected to be the hottest day, with El Paso reaching about 107 and heat-index values near 104, according to the National Weather Service.
Little Relief Thursday Night
Thursday night will be mostly clear, but temperatures will not drop much, with a low around 80 and readings potentially rising toward 84 overnight. Heat-index values could still reach 103, making outdoor work, exercise and time in parked cars especially risky even after sunset.
Residents should take extra precautions by drinking water, wearing lightweight clothing and moving strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Children, older adults, people with health conditions, and anyone working outdoors face higher risks of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and people should never leave children or pets inside a vehicle.
Storm Chances Return Friday Night
The forecast turns more unsettled Friday night, when showers and thunderstorms are likely with a 60% chance of rain. Saturday will be cooler but still hot, topping out near 100 degrees with a slight chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms, followed by a 40% chance of storms Saturday night.
Sunday brings a brief break from the triple-digit heat, with sunny skies and a high near 98. Temperatures are expected to climb back to around 100 Monday, 101 Tuesday and 100 Wednesday, while rain chances remain low in the El Paso lowlands.

The City of El Paso's summer heat guidance lists free cooling stations and directs residents to call 3-1-1 for available services. Facilities listed by the city include Valle Bajo Community Center at 7380 Alameda Ave. and the Main Library at 501 N.
