El Paso is heading into another punishing stretch of summer heat, with clear skies giving way to a high near 104 degrees Wednesday. The city will see little relief through Friday, when temperatures could reach 106 and overnight lows remain unusually warm.
Heat Advisory Runs Through Friday
The National Weather Service has a Heat Advisory in effect from noon Wednesday through 9 p.m. Friday for El Paso County and nearby portions of the lower Rio Grande Valley. Afternoon temperatures are expected to range from 103 to 107 degrees, creating a risk of heat-related illness.
Wednesday will be sunny with east winds of 2 to 7 mph, while Thursday brings another high near 104 with light east-southeast winds. Friday is expected to be the hottest day of the stretch, with a high near 106 and mostly sunny skies.
Warm Nights Offer Little Relief
Temperatures will fall only to around 79 degrees Wednesday night, 80 Thursday night and 81 Friday night. Heat index values could reach 99 to 101 during the nighttime periods, meaning homes, vehicles and outdoor spaces may stay hot well after sunset.
Storm Chances Stay Mostly Limited
Rain chances remain near zero in El Paso through Thursday, with only a slight chance Friday. A 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms arrives Friday night, while the best storm chances through the weekend are expected over higher terrain and west of the Rio Grande.
Saturday and Sunday should be somewhat cooler but still hot, with highs near 101 and 100 degrees, respectively. Anyone working or exercising outdoors should try to schedule strenuous activity for early morning or evening, wear lightweight clothing, drink plenty of water, and take heat exhaustion or heat stroke symptoms seriously.
