A routine traffic stop in Canadian County turned into a career-defining moment for one El Reno-area deputy, after authorities say roughly 79 pounds of fentanyl were pulled off the road in a single bust.
Deputy Sgt. Preston Hodge of the Canadian County Sheriff's Office is being honored this year for the seizure, which the agency says is the largest fentanyl haul reported to the National Seizure System in 2025. The recognition is shining a spotlight on how local interdiction teams are intercepting massive loads of illicit opioids before they can be funneled into Oklahoma communities.
Traffic stop turned major bust
According to a news release from the Canadian County Sheriff's Office, the seizure happened during a criminal interdiction traffic stop. The fentanyl was later logged into national databases as weighing about 36 kilograms, or roughly 79 pounds.
The sheriff's office publicly congratulated Sgt. Hodge on the national recognition and emphasized both the scale of the seizure and its public-safety stakes. For more details, see the Canadian County Sheriff's Office.
