What started as a routine traffic stop in Gilbert on Friday night quickly turned messy when police say a driver rammed a marked patrol SUV and took off. The escape attempt did not last long: the car crashed near Val Vista Drive and Drivers Way, one person was arrested at the wreck, and the other was tackled after a short foot chase. No injuries were reported, but the police vehicle was left heavily damaged.
Investigators told Arizona's Family that detectives tried to stop the vehicle just after 8 p.m. to arrest a passenger wanted on multiple felony domestic-violence warrants. Instead of pulling over, the driver allegedly slammed into an occupied police SUV and sped away. The outlet reported the stop began near Val Vista Drive and Pecos Road before the crash and brief pursuit that followed, as officers locked down the area so detectives could document the scene and interview witnesses.
Arrests At The Crash Site
Officers say they arrested 20-year-old passenger Javier Ernesto Enriquez Fimbres at the wreckage and later chased down 18-year-old driver Oscar Francisco Enriquez Fimbres nearby, according to FOX 10 Phoenix. Both men were taken into custody at the scene and transported into the Maricopa County system while detectives gathered statements. FOX 10 noted that its information came from the Gilbert Police Department.
Police Vehicle Trashed, No Injuries Reported
Arizona's Family published booking photos credited to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and reported that investigators confirmed no officers, bystanders, or suspects were hurt. The initial collision left one patrol SUV heavily damaged, and officers stayed on scene to clear debris, map out the crash, and collect any evidence. Authorities have asked anyone with video or information about the incident to contact investigators.
Charges, Bond And Next Court Date
According to FOX 10 Phoenix, Oscar faces felony counts that include fleeing from law enforcement and aggravated assault on a police officer and is being held on a $5,000 bond. Javier is booked on multiple charges, including second-degree burglary, aggravated assault, criminal trespass, harassment, disorderly conduct, and two felony probation violations, with bond set at $15,000. FOX 10 reports both men are scheduled to appear in Maricopa County court on July 17.
How To Check Custody Status
Both suspects were processed through the county system; families and members of the public can review official custody and booking details through the Maricopa County inmate search and related online resources, which explain how inmate records and booking information are published and updated by the sheriff's office. For information on holding facilities, visitation rules, and how to verify a booking, see the county's guidance on inmate lookup procedures. As with any criminal case, the men remain presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
