A routine parking lot back-out turned ugly in Green Township last Wednesday when an 86-year-old man was assaulted after a minor collision along Glenway Avenue, according to his family. The other driver allegedly demanded cash on the spot, warned the victim not to call police, then grabbed the man’s phone, threw him to the ground, and took off. The victim walked away without broken bones or stitches, but he did suffer a cut on his nose that had to be glued shut and a road burn on his right elbow.
The incident started when both drivers were backing out of adjacent spaces and their bumpers tapped, the 86-year-old told reporters. What should have been a quick exchange of information escalated fast. Witnesses told investigators the other driver yanked the phone, hurled it to the pavement, then shoved the man to the ground before driving away.
