What started as a missing-person search in Busse Woods has turned into a grim discovery after unidentified human remains were found in the popular forest preserve in Elk Grove Village, authorities said.
Detectives had already located a vehicle tied to the case at Busse Woods North, and Forest Preserve Police are now leading the investigation. Officials have not said whether the remains belong to the missing man, and the Cook County medical examiner has not yet released an identity or cause of death.
What Officials Are Saying
A spokesman for the Forest Preserves of Cook County told NBC 5 Chicago that the remains were discovered at Busse Woods North while search crews were looking for 43-year-old Schaumburg resident Anthony Richert. According to Forest Preserve Police, there is currently no indication that the public is in danger, the spokesman said.
Search Timeline And Missing-Person Details
Schaumburg police told CBS Chicago that Richert was last seen by a family member leaving his Schaumburg home on June 25. Police say he requires medication that he did not have with him when he left.
Richert is described as about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue T-shirt, black shorts, white socks, sandals and a baseball hat.

Cook County Forest Preserve Police are overseeing the investigation, while the Cook County medical examiner’s office will handle formal identification of the remains and determine the cause of death, according to reporting by the Daily Herald.
