A delivery driver was shot in the hand late Tuesday while preparing to make a drop-off in Philadelphia’s Northern Liberties neighborhood. The driver survived and was taken to a hospital in stable condition, but the shooter remains at large.
The driver called for help around 11:30 p.m. and told officers he was preparing to make a delivery near Sixth and Spring Garden streets, according to 6abc Philadelphia. Police are searching for the gunman, and no suspect description, motive or arrest was immediately announced.
Third Philadelphia Delivery Shooting Since June
The shooting comes after two other deadly Philadelphia cases involving delivery drivers in the past two months. On June 5, a 28-year-old pizza driver was killed after someone ordered food to a vacant unit in North Philadelphia, with police later saying the order appeared to be part of an attempted robbery, according to CBS Philadelphia.
Then, on July 7, DoorDash driver MD Mahfuzul Haque was shot and killed while making a delivery in Kingsessing. Police described that case as a possible targeted attack after residents at the delivery address said they had not placed an order, while Hoodline previously reported that investigators were looking into the delivery records and available surveillance.
The Northern Liberties shooting is less severe than those two fatal cases, but it underscores the risks faced by workers who spend late nights moving through unfamiliar blocks and meeting customers at the curb. The investigation remains active, and police have not said whether they believe Tuesday night’s shooting is connected to either of the earlier cases.
