Atlanta police are asking for the public’s help after a group of juveniles was robbed at gunpoint by three males who allegedly tailed them from the Ponce City Market area, then confronted them near the intersection of Rankin Street Northeast and Glen Iris Drive Northeast on Sunday. Investigators say the youths were forced to hand over high-end sneakers and other belongings, and officers have since been canvassing the neighborhood in search of witnesses and video.
The victims were robbed of Bottega Veneta sneakers worth about $2,300 along with additional personal items, according to 95.5 WSB. Police describe the suspects as males believed to be juveniles or young adults and have released clothing and hairstyle details, including an afro, dreadlocks and a Cartier watch, in hopes that someone will recognize them. The Robbery Unit is asking anyone with information or video from the area to get in touch with investigators.
Police appeal for tips
According to the Atlanta Police Department, tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8477) or through its online tip form, and callers are asked to reference the Robbery Unit so information gets to the detectives working the case. Police say tips can remain anonymous and may qualify for a reward, depending on the details provided.
Where it happened
The robbery took place at the intersection of Rankin Street NE and Glen Iris Drive NE, just a short walk from Ponce City Market at 675 Ponce de Leon Ave NE. Ponce City Market is a mixed-use retail and food-hall complex that borders the BeltLine Eastside Trail and attracts heavy foot and bike traffic, which investigators say could translate into useful surveillance or bystander video. Those details about the complex come from its official site.
