The months-long mystery over who opened fire along the Hercules waterfront last summer has landed a suspect behind bars. Police say a man tied to an Aug. 2, 2025 shooting is now in custody on $1.4 million bail while prosecutors decide what, if anything, to file.
In yesterday's Facebook update, the Hercules Police Department identified Daniel Glass as the primary suspect in the case and said he had been arrested on an attempted murder warrant. The post ties the arrest to the Aug. 2, 2025 shooting near Bayfront Boulevard and Earnest Street and notes that the case has been sent to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office for review. Police also publicly thanked California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation parole agents, the FBI and neighboring agencies for helping track down and arrest the suspect.
What Happened Near Bayfront Boulevard
On Aug. 2, 2025, an armed person approached a man sitting in a parked vehicle near Bayfront Boulevard and Earnest Street, covered their face and opened fire, hitting the victim’s car as the driver sped off. The intersection sits along a slice of Hercules waterfront that city officials have spotlighted for redevelopment and weekend market plans, according to the City of Hercules.
How Detectives Zeroed In
Detectives say they pieced together the case using a mix of automated license plate reader hits, cellular records, surveillance video and ballistic testing to connect a vehicle and ultimately a suspect to the shooting. The department said Flock's automated license plate reader data was among the tools used. Flock Safety explains that its cameras capture multiple images per pass and help agencies match vehicles across large camera networks.
What Comes Next In Court
Glass was booked on an attempted murder warrant and is being held on $1.4 million bail while Contra Costa County prosecutors evaluate the investigation and decide whether to file formal charges. If they do, the case would move to arraignment in county court and then continue through the standard criminal process.
Hercules police say the investigation is still active and that detectives are continuing to pursue leads developed over the course of the probe, while the case sits with the District Attorney’s Office.
