Late-night ATM runs in Hickory Hill turned into a string of armed holdups this week, with Memphis police saying multiple Bank of America customers were robbed within about 90 minutes at the same cluster of machines on Winchester Road. Surveillance video and witness accounts tied the incidents together before officers moved in and made an arrest.

According to WREG, police identified the suspect as 19-year-old Queshawn Partee. He was taken into custody and booked on charges that include aggravated robbery, criminal attempt to commit aggravated robbery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.

Police account

Per the Memphis Police Department, the robberies happened between about 11:15 p.m. and 12:55 a.m., after victims reported being confronted by armed men while using the ATMs. Responding officers said they later spotted two males dressed in all black hiding behind a dumpster just south of the Bank of America machines and detained one man at the scene.

Victims told investigators that two men in dark hoodies pointed guns at them and demanded cash, according to WREG. Surveillance review estimated one victim lost about $300 and another about $750, and one person reported that a $300 black Plein Sport watch was taken.

Manhunt and court

Police arrested Partee at the scene and booked him on the listed charges while detectives continue to search for a second suspect, WREG reports. Partee is scheduled to appear in municipal court on Wednesday. Authorities asked anyone with video or tips to contact CrimeStoppers or call 911.

How to stay safe at ATMs

For people who rely on ATMs, banks and law enforcement are urging extra caution, especially late at night. Bank of America advises shielding your PIN, avoiding counting cash in public, sticking to well-lit machines and cancelling the transaction and leaving if the area feels off.

Legal status

Partee faces state felony counts that carry significant penalties if he is convicted. The charges are allegations at this stage, and the case will move through the local court system where prosecutors must prove the accusations beyond a reasonable doubt.
