The National Weather Service Honolulu says the strongest winds could arrive from Friday night through Saturday afternoon, with some areas potentially reaching wind-advisory levels.
Windy Weekend Takes Shape
Friday will bring a high near 87°F, with east-northeast winds of 15 to 22 mph and gusts up to 30 mph. By Friday night and Saturday, winds could run around 24 mph with gusts reaching 33 mph, making exposed roads, ridgelines and open shorelines feel considerably blustrier.
Saturday starts with scattered showers before noon, then turns mostly sunny with a high near 86°F. Sunday remains warm near 85°F, though the trades should begin easing, followed by highs in the mid-80s Monday through Wednesday and overnight lows generally in the mid-70s.
Windward Showers, Choppier East Shores
Most of the rain should favor windward and mountain areas, while leeward Honolulu gets a mix of sun and brief passing showers. Thursday's rainfall is expected to stay light, with less than a tenth of an inch possible, but a quick shower could still make roads slick in spots.
South-facing surf is running around the summer average at 5 to 6 feet Thursday and should gradually fade. East-facing shores are expected to get rougher into the weekend as trade-wind swell and additional east swell build, while north shores remain flat to tiny.
Stronger winds and drier air will also raise fire-weather concerns, particularly where gusts funnel down from the mountains. There is no fire-weather warning listed in the current report, but outdoor burning and other activities involving flames deserve extra caution as humidity dips and the breeze picks up.
