A late-night drive to a St. Paul hospital has turned into a shooting investigation on the city’s North End, after police say a woman was dropped off with a gunshot wound and officers later tracked the crime scene back to Jackson Street.
Police Release Limited Details
According to KSTP, the woman arrived at a St. Paul hospital around 12:40 a.m. with a non-life-threatening gunshot injury. Investigators then located evidence of a shooting on the 1200 block of Jackson Street, near Maryland Avenue, and secured the area for evidence.
Police say no one is in custody and they are not releasing additional information at this time, including potential suspect details or what may have led up to the shooting.
Not the First Violent Incident on This Block
The 1200 block of Jackson Street has seen serious violence before. In July 2025, a person was fatally shot at a nearby homeless encampment, a case that was covered by CBS Minnesota. That earlier killing, paired with the latest nonfatal shooting, highlights continuing public-safety concerns in the area even as city officials point to overall declines in shootings citywide.
How the City Investigates These Cases
The City of Saint Paul has created a dedicated Non‑Fatal Shooting Unit that treats nonfatal shootings with homicide-level resources, an approach that city documents say has helped raise clearance rates and reduce shootings, according to the city's 2026 budget.
For non-emergencies, the Saint Paul Police Department lists its dispatch line as 651‑291‑1111. Residents can also see instructions on how to file a report on the city’s police website.
How Witnesses Can Help
Investigators often rely on everyday technology to crack these cases. Police are asking anyone who was in the area and may have cellphone, dashcam, or doorbell footage around the time of the shooting to preserve it and contact authorities.
As earlier coverage noted when officers urged residents to help solve another nonfatal shooting, the department has previously asked the public to save any video and reach out with tips, including in a case where officers plead for tips after a teen was shot near Front Avenue.
