The two-acre spread along the West 98th Street corridor folds together a full production brewery, a roomy indoor bierhalle and a sprawling outdoor biergarten that local officials and fans are already eyeing as a family-friendly, event-ready hangout.
Big Capacity, Big Draw
Inside, the Lenexa hall seats about 400 people, and the outdoor biergarten can hold roughly 500. That kind of headcount is likely the largest in the Kansas City area, according to the Kansas City Business Journal. The layout is built for scale, with room for big watch parties, concerts and community gatherings rather than just a cozy pint and a barstool.
What’s On Site
The two-acre build packs in a working brewery, a covered patio, an amphitheater with a stage and a large video screen, plus family-focused touches that go beyond the usual beer-and-pretzels setup. Visitors will find a children’s play area and an off-leash dog zone, according to KCUR. The brewery will sit inside West Star Development’s Vista Village, which is slated to surround it with retail, housing and green space. According to the City of Lenexa, 'Vista Village is a thoughtfully designed, mixed-use development located within the K-10/Ridgeview.' Owner Calls It A 'Third Place'
Founder Steve Holle told the Kansas City Star that the Lenexa location is meant to be “a good old-fashioned place in the Bavarian style where families and friends meet and enjoy food and a beer.” The Star reported that Holle is banking on the mix of German-style brews, a full kitchen and regular live programming to turn the complex into more of a full-on experience than a traditional taproom.
Ribbon Cutting And Price Tag
KC Bier Co. officially opened the doors at 18030 W. 98th St. on July 28. The project carried a roughly $7 million price tag, the Kansas City Business Journal reported, noting the hundreds of indoor and outdoor seats now in play for big events and weekend crowds. A search of the City of Lenexa's online records for building permits or certificates tied to 18030 W. 98th St. 'did not match any documents,' according to the City of Lenexa website.
Why It Matters
The grand opening lands in a tougher era for local brewers. The Kansas City Star reported that 2025 brought more brewery closures than openings in the region, and industry watchers say operators are leaning hard into “experiences” to keep visitors coming back. That backdrop helps explain why KC Bier Co. loaded up on live music space, kid- and dog-friendly zones and a sizable outdoor program instead of a bare-bones production facility.
