A quiet campsite off Lake Rabun Road turned into a crime scene on Tuesday when Rabun County deputies arrested 50-year-old Tracy Phillips of Tiger after serving a search warrant. Deputies reported finding suspected methamphetamine, a large quantity of suspected hydrocodone pills, hypodermic needles and $11,930 in cash. Phillips now faces multiple felony charges.
Search Yields Drugs and Cash
Rabun County sheriff's deputies executed the search warrant at the Lake Rabun Road campsite and took Phillips into custody without incident, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. Investigators said they recovered suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and hypodermic needles, along with what they described as a large quantity of suspected hydrocodone pills and nearly $12,000 in cash.
Sheriff Praises Deputies
In a statement to FOX 5 Atlanta, Sheriff Mark Gerrells backed his team’s handling of the operation. “I am proud of the professionalism displayed by our deputies throughout this operation,” he said, adding that the sheriff’s office remains focused on protecting the community and holding offenders accountable.
Charges Listed
Phillips is being held on charges that include trafficking a Schedule II narcotic, possession of methamphetamine, possession and use of drug-related objects and violation of a family violence order, the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office told Now Georgia. Officials have not named any additional suspects and have not released a full public inventory of everything seized at the campsite.
What Trafficking Charges Could Mean
Under Georgia law, trafficking charges are based on the weight of certain drugs and can trigger mandatory minimum sentences for some Schedule II substances. That can mean multi-year prison terms and significant fines, depending on the specific drug and total quantity involved. The trafficking statute is set out in O.C.G.A. § 16-13-31, which details the tiers and potential penalties, according to Justia.
Phillips remains in custody while investigators and prosecutors review the evidence and decide on formal filings and upcoming court dates. The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office released initial information to local media, but officials did not immediately say how the Lake Rabun campsite first came under investigation.
