Gunfire on a north St. Louis block late Sunday left a man dead and homicide detectives called in to investigate, police said.
Officers from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s District 6 were dispatched to the 2000 block of Obear Avenue at about 10 p.m. for a reported shooting. When they arrived, they found a man who was later pronounced dead. Homicide detectives were requested to take over the case.
Police response
According to First Alert 4, the man died at the scene. The outlet reports that investigators have not yet released the victim’s name or identified a possible motive, and that homicide detectives are leading the probe.
Obear Avenue's recent violence
Sunday’s killing follows another deadly shooting on Obear Avenue less than a month ago. A June 14 incident on the 1400 block also drew homicide detectives, as detailed in Deadly Gunfire Shatters College Hill, which noted that investigators asked the public for tips as that case unfolded.
How to help
St. Louis police are asking anyone with information about the latest shooting to contact the Homicide Division or submit an anonymous tip to CrimeStoppers. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department lists the Homicide Division’s number as 314-444-5371 and CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477).
The investigation remains active, and police say they will release additional details as they are confirmed. First Alert 4 reports the case is still developing.
