The loss has rocked neighboring fire departments, where crews are grieving a colleague they saw as part of a tight local network. Village officials said funeral arrangements and public opportunities to honor DuVall will be shared once they are finalized.
In a Facebook post, the Maple Heights Fire Department offered “our deepest condolences” to the North Randall Fire Department and to DuVall’s family and friends. The message included a joint release signed by North Randall Mayor David Smith and Fire Chief Marshall Shorts that described DuVall as a dedicated first responder and stated that funeral details would be shared as they become available. Maple Heights’ post closed with a simple tribute: “Rest easy, firefighter Cameron DuVall. Your service and sacrifice will not be forgotten.”
Crash and charges
Pepper Pike police said officers were called to Fairmount Boulevard near Brainard Road at about 2:48 a.m. for a report of a disabled vehicle. When they arrived, they found three vehicles involved in a collision and two people with serious injuries. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified one of the victims as 29-year-old Cameron Duvall, who was later pronounced dead at the scene. Police arrested the driver of the third vehicle and charged that person with aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault, operating a vehicle while under the influence, and failure to maintain an assured clear distance ahead, according to WOIO.
