An early Thursday traffic stop in north Salem turned into a full-blown drug bust, with a 43-year-old man hauled off to jail and roughly 100 grams of suspected methamphetamine seized, police said. Officers who pulled a vehicle over in the 600 block of Greencrest Street NE reported finding three outstanding arrest warrants for the driver, a small amount of fentanyl on him, and a restricted weapon in the car. The driver was booked into the Marion County Jail.
According to the Salem Police Department, officers stopped Joshua Walker at about 2:19 a.m. in the 600 block of Greencrest Street NE. During the stop, officers reported discovering three outstanding criminal arrest warrants. A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up approximately 100 grams of methamphetamine and what police described as a restricted weapon. Walker was lodged at the Marion County Jail on multiple counts, including unlawful delivery and possession of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of fentanyl, the department said.
Seizure Echoes Spring Drug Crackdowns in Salem
The bust lands in the middle of a busy stretch for local narcotics enforcement this spring. The city’s Strategic Investigations Unit seized about 15 pounds of methamphetamine during a May investigation, and detectives have been working with federal partners on related probes. The City of Salem said that earlier seizure stemmed from a judicial search warrant and remains under investigation.
