A quiet early Sunday in South Memphis turned tragic when a two-vehicle crash at South Third Street and East Belz Boulevard left a man and a woman dead just after 1 a.m.
Memphis police arrived shortly after 1 a.m. and found both victims pronounced dead at the scene, according to Action News 5. The department said the crash remains under investigation and has not yet released the victims' names.
That stretch of South Third near Belz Boulevard has already been on the radar after previous violent incidents and crashes, including a May road rage confrontation that spilled into an AutoZone parking lot, according to a prior report on the road rage beatdown. Neighbors and drivers have repeatedly flagged the corridor as a trouble spot for late-night traffic and simmering altercations.
