Two 24-year-old men were killed late Tuesday when a speeding pickup lost control and slammed into a concrete pole on Loop 375 South near the I-10 exit, in a violent chain-reaction crash that police say started with an unsafe lane change.
What investigators say
According to KFOX, the white 2017 Toyota Tundra was headed south on Loop 375 around 9:35 p.m. on July 21, moving at a high rate of speed while it cut across lanes and tried to pass other vehicles. Investigators say the truck side-swiped a 2022 Genesis, then rear-ended a 2013 Nissan Maxima before spinning into the center barrier and crashing into a concrete pole. The drivers of the Genesis and the Maxima were not injured.
In a separate release, the El Paso Police Department said its Special Traffic Investigations unit responded to the scene at mile marker 44 and confirmed that the pickup’s driver, identified as Isaac Ibarra, 24, and his passenger, Fabian Alexander Alonzo, 24, both from El Paso, died from their injuries. Investigators cited excessive speed and an unsafe lane change as contributing factors.

KFOX reported that the crash sequence matched what police described, with the pickup clipping one car, slamming into another and then smashing into the concrete infrastructure in the median. Their coverage included images from the scene and reiterated that Special Traffic Investigators are treating the wreck as a speed-related fatal crash.
Citywide toll and investigation
City officials say the deaths of Ibarra and Alonzo are El Paso’s 29th and 30th traffic fatalities of 2026, down from 34 at the same time last year, according to the El Paso Police Department. The department said its Special Traffic Investigations unit is still reviewing evidence and will release more details as they are confirmed.

The El Paso Metropolitan Planning Organization and TxDOT list Loop 375 as one of the corridors tracked by the HERO incident-response program, and planning documents show rising average daily traffic and crash activity along the loop. That history is one reason transportation officials and safety advocates pay close attention when a high-speed wreck on the route turns deadly.
