At a brief compliance-and-election hearing in the case of Oscar Galante, the Marblehead teenager charged in connection with the August collision, attorneys told the court they are still waiting on several pieces of evidence. Those items include a full collision reconstruction, a lab report and a forensic download of a phone that could all shape the next legal steps.
The short session focused largely on discovery. Defense lawyers updated the judge and requested additional time while the Commonwealth completes its review, according to the court docket. As reported by Itemlive, Marblehead police are finalizing a collision reconstruction report, and the defense said Galante's phone is being downloaded for examination.
According to the Essex County District Attorney's Office, the crash took place around 2:51 a.m. on August 19, 2025, near 352 Atlantic Avenue. Prosecutors later charged a juvenile with motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation and related offenses. The office has also noted that the defendant's identity is being withheld because of his juvenile status and the protections of juvenile court.

While lawyers and investigators work through reports and downloads, Marblehead residents have been mourning Savanah in quieter, public ways.
Friends, classmates and teachers dedicated a memorial bench outside Veterans Middle School in June and held vigils in the weeks after the crash. Evidence still pending
