
Mattapoisett police say a midafternoon report of gunfire near Harbor Beach on Tuesday turned into a cross-town pursuit that ended with a person of interest in custody in neighboring Marion. Officers responded shortly after 3 p.m. to the area near the shoreline and then followed the individual into Marion, where the chase came to a stop and police made the arrest.
Police: Incident Appears Isolated
Authorities have not yet said whether anyone was hurt in the reported shooting. Mattapoisett police said the case is “believed to be an isolated incident” and that “there are no concerns for public safety.” The department says it is working the case with Massachusetts State Police and the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office, according to NBC10 Boston.

Officials have not released the suspect's name, a possible motive, or whether any charges have been filed. Police say the chase that began in Mattapoisett was brief and ended across the town line in Marion. No public advisories or shelter-in-place orders were issued to residents during the incident.
