A Memphis woman was shot in the thigh near an Uptown intersection Tuesday, and police say a 44-year-old man was arrested after the victim identified him as the shooter.
Officers responded to a reported shooting at North Front Street and Saffarans Avenue, where they found the woman wounded, according to WREG. She was taken to Regional One Health in non-critical condition.
Memphis police identified the suspect as Octavius Lee Hall, who was reportedly driving a Cadillac Escalade when the shooting happened. The victim told officers Hall pulled out a black handgun and shot her in the leg, while Hall and the woman with him claimed they were being followed and said the victim’s ex-girlfriend had shot the other woman two days earlier.
Hall also told officers he heard a gunshot when the victim got out of her vehicle, police said. Hall and the woman accompanying him then left the scene, while investigators continued working to determine what led to the confrontation.
Hall Faces Four Charges After Uptown Shooting
Hall was arrested on allegations of aggravated assault, employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, and tampering with or fabricating evidence, WREG reported. Police cited a 2005 marijuana-possession conviction when identifying Hall as a convicted felon.
The charges against the woman who was with Hall were not immediately known. The shooting victim’s non-critical condition was the only reported medical update, and the allegations against Hall have not been tested in court.
Police Have Not Disclosed Further Details
Investigators have not publicly established a motive or said whether additional charges are expected. Hall is presumed innocent unless proven guilty, and any further court proceedings should clarify the competing accounts of what happened at the Uptown intersection.
