A 9-year-old boy in east Mesa stayed remarkably calm when a masked woman allegedly tried to rob a Bank of America branch, quietly alerting his grandmother before the two hid under a desk as the incident played out. They had walked in to open the boy’s first checking account when the suspect reportedly threatened a teller. Mesa police arrested a woman at the scene, and officers say no one was injured.
The attempted robbery unfolded around 12:30 p.m. on July 13 near Broadway and Greenfield roads, according to ABC15 Arizona. Officers took a woman into custody, and she was booked on felony armed robbery, aggravated assault and disorderly conduct, the station reported. Police told ABC15 that bank employees and customers were not hurt during the incident.
Child stayed calm under pressure
Hunter, a soon-to-be fourth-grader who had saved about $160 doing chores and brought $27 in change from his grandmother Colette, quietly nudged her before the two slipped under a desk while the robber allegedly threatened a teller. "He just walked up and tapped me on the shoulder. The calmness in his demeanor, it was surreal," Colette told ABC15 Arizona. Hunter later told the station he planned to use his first debit card to buy his grandmother a keyboard.
