A late-night stabbing at a Mesa home near the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway and McDowell Road ended with a man dead on Sunday night, after first responders could not save him at the scene. Mesa police say officers found the victim with stab wounds and attempted life-saving measures, but Mesa Fire and Medical Department crews ultimately pronounced him dead at the house. Officers detained a suspect at the home, and homicide detectives have taken over the case.
The call came in at about 10:20 p.m., according to KTAR News 92.3 FM, which cited the Mesa Police Department. The outlet reports that officers and first responders provided life-saving aid before the man was pronounced dead. Police have not released the names of the victim or the detained individual as detectives continue to work the scene.

Officers and crime-scene personnel stayed at the property late into the night, collecting evidence and talking with neighbors while they pieced together what happened inside the home.
