A Wednesday afternoon stabbing near the busy intersection of Rainbow Boulevard and Lake Mead Boulevard left one person injured and rushed to a local hospital, according to Las Vegas police. Officers were called out around 3:25 p.m., and detectives briefly shut down the immediate area so they could process the scene. One person was detained in connection with the incident, though no charges had been announced as of early evening. Police say the investigation is still in its early stages.
In a statement to KSNV, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said the victim was taken to a local hospital and that officers are looking for any additional suspects or witnesses. LVMPD also asked the public to steer clear of the area while investigators work.
Recent Violence Near The Same Intersection
The northwest Las Vegas stretch around Rainbow and Lake Mead has been on edge after a run of recent violence. On June 17, a fatal shooting inside a Five Below at the Best in the West shopping center near the intersection left an employee dead and triggered an active search and an arrest warrant, according to reporting by KTNV. Neighbors and business owners told local outlets that the back-to-back incidents are heightening safety concerns in the shopping center corridor.
What Police Are Asking
Police are urging anyone who saw the stabbing, or who has video or other information, to contact LVMPD, per KSNV. Officials have not yet released the identities of either the injured person or the individual who was detained. The department says further details will be made public as the investigation continues.
