Two people were wounded in a shooting early Wednesday inside Victory Bar & Cigar on Shrewsbury Street in downtown Worcester, turning a late-night hangout into an active crime scene just after midnight. Officers arrived to find a man and a woman suffering from gunshot injuries and rushed both to a nearby hospital. Outside, police blocked off the exterior of the building and the roadway for about two hours while investigators worked the scene.
According to Boston 25 News, officers responded to 56 Shrewsbury St. around 12:35 a.m., immediately rendered aid to both victims, and then transported them to a local hospital. The station reports that both underwent surgery and were listed in stable condition.
According to WCVB, no suspect had been taken into custody as of early Wednesday, and police told the station there was no reason to believe there was a broader danger to the public. WCVB adds that the incident remains under investigation.
