A late-night state trooper pursuit in Kansas City ended in tragedy early Wednesday when a pedestrian was struck and killed near 18th Street and Prospect Avenue by a vehicle that police say was fleeing the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The driver kept going after the impact, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Kansas City police have taken over the investigation.
Investigators told KCTV that a trooper was chasing a white Chevrolet Trax eastbound on 18th Street just after 1 a.m. when the SUV hit a person who was crossing in a marked crosswalk. According to investigators, the trooper immediately called off the chase and stopped to help, but emergency crews pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.
