A man is in custody after an hours-long standoff that pulled SWAT teams into Millvale early today and briefly locked down part of the neighborhood. Officials say the suspect had barricaded himself inside a home before the tense scene ended quietly when he walked out shortly before 4 a.m., with no serious injuries reported.
The incident unfolded at the corner of Beekman Street and Moosewood Avenue. Police say a person who had been inside the house was able to get out on their own, and officers moved in to arrest the suspect once he exited. The man had outstanding warrants, and the call was one of two overnight SWAT standoffs across greater Cincinnati, police told WLWT.
The Beekman corridor has seen recent violence. Two weeks earlier, a drive-by shooting at a nearby intersection left a man critically injured, according to a drive-by shooting at a nearby intersection. The Beekman and Moosewood corner is also listed as a stop on SORTA’s Route 27 schedule, which highlights how a scene like this can disrupt daily routines for bus riders, per Go Metro.
Police timeline and next steps
Negotiators worked to secure a peaceful surrender before the man came out and was taken into custody, according to police statements to WLWT. Authorities have not released the suspect's name or said whether any new charges specifically tied to the barricade will be filed right away.
Warrants and legal process
Because officers said the suspect had active warrants, he was expected to be processed on those counts first. Any additional charges related to the standoff will be up to prosecutors to determine. Police have asked anyone with information about the incident to contact local law enforcement.
