The National Weather Service Twin Cities says the heaviest rain threat is focused farther southwest, but the metro should not count on staying completely dry.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely Friday, especially before 5 p.m., while temperatures fall back to a cooler high near 79 degrees. The chance of precipitation reaches 70%, and rainfall amounts could range from one-half to three-quarters of an inch in the Minneapolis area.
Northeast winds of 5 to 10 mph and thick cloud cover will add to the gray, unsettled feel. Anyone with Friday outdoor plans should keep a backup option handy and avoid flooded roadways if heavier downpours develop.
Sunny Weekend Offers A Reset
Saturday and Sunday look substantially better, with sunny skies and highs near 86 degrees both days. Overnight lows should dip to the mid-60s, with light winds making the weekend favorable for parks, patios and neighborhood errands.
Monday stays sunny and warmer, reaching about 88 degrees, before a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms returns late Monday night and continues into Tuesday. There are currently no watches, warnings or advisories for the Minneapolis forecast area, although smoky skies may occasionally make the air look hazy.
