A 65-year-old man in Buchanan County was shot in the head and beaten with a bicycle frame after confronting two men who allegedly ran over his cat Sunday morning. The attack happened outside a residence and sent the man to a Kansas City trauma center.
The incident unfolded on July 26, according to KCTV5. Investigators said the victim told them the two men ran over his cat, prompting an argument before they got out of their vehicle, shot him in the head and beat him with a bicycle frame.
First responders took the victim to an Atchison hospital around 7:30 a.m., and he was later airlifted to the University of Kansas Medical Center for treatment. The initial report did not identify the two men or announce any arrests or charges.
Search Warrants Executed As Investigation Continues
The Buchanan County Sheriff's Office has executed several search warrants while investigators pursue leads in the case. Officials have not publicly described a motive beyond the argument that followed the cat being struck. According to PubMed Central (a 2015 review by P.
