A 30-year-old active-duty U.S. Air Force captain in the Oklahoma City area was quietly taken into custody in mid-July after state investigators say child sexual-abuse material found online was traced to an account linked to him. Authorities say the suspect is being held at the Cleveland County Detention Center in Norman.

Investigation and arrest timeline

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation's Internet Crimes Against Children unit says special agents located files of child sexual-abuse material on June 14 and traced them to an online user, then made contact with that person at his workplace on July 8, according to OSBI. The agency identified the suspect as Matthew Luis Sanchez.

Sanchez was arrested on July 13 and booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center, according to the Cleveland County Detention Center page.

Charges and what authorities say

In its public statement, OSBI wrote that “the investigation is ongoing,” and the agency says Sanchez faces state counts that include child sexual exploitation, distribution of child pornography and alleged violations of the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act. OSBI says it plans to release additional information as the case moves forward.

What the law says

Oklahoma law treats possession and distribution of child sexual-abuse material as serious felonies. Aggravated possession, defined as having 100 or more separate files, can be punished by up to life in prison, and distribution and publication offenses carry lengthy prison terms, fines and mandatory sex-offender registration. Those penalties are spelled out in 21 O.S. § 1040.12a.

Local context and reporting

OSBI's ICAC unit has made several high-profile arrests across the region this year, and local coverage has documented similar recent cases in Harrah and Pottawatomie County as investigators follow cybertips and digital trails. Nationally, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children reports that CyberTipline reports surged in 2025, highlighting why ICAC task forces remain a major focus for state and local agencies, according to Harrah man busted after child-abuse image haul and NCMEC.

Where to get more information

Anyone with tips or who believes they have relevant information is urged to contact law enforcement. The Cleveland County Detention Center site lists media and open-records contacts and can be used for records requests at the Cleveland County Detention Center. OSBI named Hunter McKee as a media contact in its post.
