Oklahoma City is heading into another punishing summer day Wednesday, with temperatures climbing from around 80 early to 102 by afternoon. The heat index could reach 108, and conditions are expected to remain dangerous into the evening as a Heat Advisory takes effect at 11 a.m.
Heat Advisory Runs Through 9 p.m.
The advisory covers Oklahoma City from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, according to the National Weather Service. Skies will be mostly sunny, with south winds of 5 to 8 mph and little chance of rain.
People spending time outside should drink plenty of fluids, take frequent breaks in air conditioning or shade, and avoid the hottest part of the afternoon when possible. Officials also recommend checking on relatives, neighbors and anyone especially vulnerable to heat illness.
More Heat Before A Weekend Cooldown
Thursday brings another sunny 102-degree day, with the heat index again reaching about 108. Friday stays just as hot, though a 20% chance of rain showers is possible between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m., followed by a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms Friday night as a front moves through.
The weekend offers a noticeable, if not exactly chilly, change. Saturday should reach 93 under sunny skies, followed by 92 Sunday, with overnight lows dropping into the low 70s; temperatures then begin edging back up to 95 Monday and 96 Tuesday.
