Downtown Oswego’s old firehouse is trading sirens for stemware as Bay 54, a new cocktail lounge, gets ready to throw open its doors with a grand opening on Friday, July 24. The party starts with a 4 p.m. ribbon-cutting, followed by immediate service, and owners are bracing for a packed house with first-come, first-served seating and no reservations on night one.
Opening Night And What To Expect
According to WSPY, the ribbon-cutting will take place at 4 p.m. on Main Street, with the bar opening to guests immediately afterward. Seating that evening will be strictly first-come, first-served, and reservations will not be accepted. The owners told the outlet they expect a wait but say they are ready and eager to deliver the best experience they can on day one.
From The Bike Rack To A Timeless Lounge
Patch reports that Bay 54 is the latest venture from the team behind The Lewis in St. Charles and will take over 57 Main Street, the former home of The Bike Rack. The owners told Patch they are transforming the original engine bay and paramedics’ quarters of the circa-1954 firehouse into a moody, “timeless” lounge, aiming for a warm, welcoming space where guests can slow down and settle in.
Town Support Helped The Buildout
Shaw Local reported that during a July 15, 2025 village board meeting, trustees approved $71,208 in financial assistance for Bay 54: a $32,628 loan and $38,580 in grants. The money is intended to help offset high construction costs and bring the former retail space up to code for a drinking establishment. Village staff also offered pre-leasing guidance and permitting support throughout the buildout, according to village documents cited by Shaw Local.
Harborfest Weekend Could Swell Crowds
The debut lines up with Oswego Harborfest, which runs July 23 to 26 and packs downtown with riverfront events and visitors. That timing could mean heavier-than-usual foot traffic on Main Street and longer waits for anyone hoping to check out Bay 54 during its first public nights.
What’s Next For Bay 54
The owners told Patch that Bay 54 will lead with cocktails at launch, with an eye toward eventually building out the second floor and introducing a small food program once operations are running smoothly. They said those additions could come within 18 to 24 months. For opening night, they are asking walk-in guests for a bit of patience as the staff settles into its new downtown home.
