
Two people were killed early July 12, 2024, when vehicles crashed on eastbound Interstate 44 near Route 100 (Manchester Road) in St. Louis County. Troopers were called to the scene at about 1:45 a.m., and one other person was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not immediately known.
State troopers shut down the eastbound lanes for several hours while they worked the scene and cleared wreckage. According to KSDK, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported two fatalities and said an investigation was underway.

Per the Missouri State Highway Patrol, troopers are the lead agency on the probe and routinely close lanes so they can document serious crash scenes and remove damaged vehicles. Authorities have not released additional details about what caused the collision as the investigation continues.

The deadly crash comes amid ongoing attention to safety and repairs along I-44. Planning work by MoDOT under its Forward 44 effort, along with resurfacing on nearby Route 100, is focused on addressing pavement, bridge and safety issues on stretches of the corridor.
