
A 13-year-old boy was wounded Monday evening in Portage Park after someone inside a passing SUV opened fire along the 6000 block of West Montrose Avenue, police said. The boy was struck in the leg and taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, where he was listed in good condition. Police had not announced any arrests as of Monday night.
What police said
Chicago police said the shooting happened about 8 p.m., when a dark-colored SUV drove past and someone inside fired, hitting the boy in the leg. Paramedics took the teen to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, and police reported no arrests, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Neighbors on edge after recent crimes
The shooting unfolded in a stretch of the Northwest Side that neighbors say has already been on edge over recent incidents. Hoodline previously reported a recent run of burglaries in Portage Park and neighboring Dunning, and also covered a case in which a 13-year-old bolted from an alleged kidnapper while walking in the area.
Police response and next steps
Area detectives were on the scene canvassing for video and witnesses as they worked to piece together what happened. Police reported no arrests and did not immediately release additional details, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
