A nearly two-year hunt for a Portland murder suspect ended this week in an unassuming business plaza in San Bernardino County, where deputies say they quietly moved in and made the arrest.
Authorities say a 26-year-old man wanted in connection with a late-2024 homicide in Portland was tracked to the Loma Linda area and taken into custody in the 25000 block of Barton Road after an extended investigation.
San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies identified the man as Rodney Rogers and said they arrested him on July 2, according to KTLA. The outlet reports Rogers was wanted on a murder warrant out of Oregon and was booked locally while officials prepare to send him back to that state.
Where he is being held
Rogers was booked into the county's Central Detention Center as officers coordinated his extradition to Oregon. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department lists the Central Detention Center as the region's primary booking facility and provides its location and booking information on the department's website.
How deputies say they found him
Investigators say they located Rogers at a business plaza in the 25000 block of Barton Road in the Loma Linda area before taking him into custody. KTLA reports that authorities believe Rogers had been transient while trying to avoid detection for nearly two years.
What happens next
Officials say Rogers remains booked in San Bernardino County pending extradition to Oregon, where the murder warrant was issued. Local and Oregon investigators have released few details about the victim or any possible motive as the case moves into the next phase of the legal process.
San Bernardino deputies have asked anyone with information related to the case to contact the department or the investigators assigned to it. Law enforcement had not released additional records as of Wednesday.
