A power outage sidelined Red Line trains between West Park and Brookpark stations today, sending riders onto #66R shuttle buses while rail service was suspended on that stretch. The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority warned of delays and told passengers to rely on live updates as buses filled in for trains along the disrupted segment.
RTA Issues Replacement Bus Alert
In a social-media alert, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority told riders that #66R shuttle buses were replacing Red Line trains between West Park and Brookpark because of the power outage. The agency urged passengers to "check the Transit app for real time updates," according to GCRTA's Facebook post.
66R Replacement Buses In The Transit App
The 66R is RTA's designated Red Line replacement bus and shows up in live-trip tools under the label "66R Red Line Replacement Bus," covering west-side Red Line stops and airport connections. Riders using the app can track estimated arrival times for shuttle buses instead of waiting on a stalled platform, according to the Transit app.
Official Guidance And Alternate Options
RideRTA's service alerts page notes the service disruption and confirms that #66R shuttles are operating in place of trains on the West Park to Brookpark segment. The agency advises riders to use its online trip planner, the Transit app, or call the Community Connection Line at 216-621-9500 for alternate routes and real-time help, according to RideRTA.
Airport Connections And What To Expect
Brookpark is the final Red Line stop before Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and features bus bays and large park-and-ride lots. Travelers heading to or from the airport are being urged to build in extra time and factor in bus connections while shuttle service is in effect, per the Brookpark station page.
Why This Matters
RTA has leaned on the 66R designation during both planned work and emergency situations in the past, making it the agency's go-to backup when trains cannot operate. A previous May 2025 rail disruption on this line used the same shuttle setup, underscoring a familiar playbook for riders, see coverage of that earlier Red Line replacement for additional context.
