Gunfire ripped through East Oakland before sunrise today, leaving three people wounded and one person in handcuffs after a triple shooting on the 800 block of International Boulevard.
The violence broke out shortly after 4:30 AM along the stretch between 8th and 9th avenues, drawing stunned neighbors out of their homes as first responders flooded the scene. According to initial police accounts, one victim was critically injured while two others were reported in stable condition. Authorities said a suspect was arrested in connection with the shooting, but have not released the person's name.
Officers were dispatched after multiple ShotSpotter activations on International Boulevard and found one person at the scene suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. A short time later, another victim was discovered on the 1800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way, roughly two miles away. Paramedics transported both victims to local hospitals, with police saying the first was in critical condition and the second was stable. A third victim was privately taken to a hospital and was also listed in stable condition.
Investigators collected multiple bullet casings at the International Boulevard scene and determined that all three victims were connected to that location. One person was arrested in connection with the shooting, though police have not yet released the suspect's identity, according to CBS San Francisco.
A corridor with repeated violence
The International Boulevard corridor has seen more than its share of violence this year. It was the site of a triple homicide in January, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, along with earlier nonfatal shootings detailed in Pre-Dawn Crossfire from Hoodline.
Police have leaned on ShotSpotter alerts to respond more quickly to overnight gunfire along the corridor, and investigators are again asking anyone with video or information to contact the Oakland Police Department Homicide Unit at 510-238-3821 or the anonymous tip line at 510-238-7950, per local reporting.
Oakland police say the investigation is ongoing as detectives process evidence and interview witnesses. Officials are expected to release additional details as they become available and as the Alameda County District Attorney's Office reviews the case.
